Brenda and James

After observing an increase in the number of people requesting assistance and listening to the stories of how they became needy, co-founders James Bufford and Brenda Vinson-Bufford, realized that the people just did not need a handout, they needed the tools to help them maintain self-sufficiency. On April 25, 2004, they formed State of BEing, Incorporated.

The mission of the State of BEing is to empower our clients to achieve their dreams through Education, Opportunity and Ownership.

Designed for the purpose of providing outreach services, housing, education, social and community services for disadvantaged women, youth, families and the elderly, State of BEing, is focused on engaging and empowering the community it serves.

Our motivation, to help better the lives of those we serve, is planted firmly on four core values:

Respect: We affirm the dignity, potential and contribution of participants, donors, partners and staff.

Integrity: We act consistently with our mission, being honest and transparent in what we do and say, and accept responsibility for our collective and individual actions.

Commitment: We work together effectively to serve the larger community through active community engagement and stakeholder involvement.

Excellence: We constantly challenge ourselves to the highest levels of learning and performance to achieve greater impact.
