Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) Program

Unfortunately, most of the California Department of Corrections’ inmates were previously involved with the state’s juvenile justice system and the California Youth Authority.  If these young people could be successfully integrated back into the community by providing them with mentoring, education and employment skills, the numbers of youth moving on to the prison system would be drastically reduced.  As the economy continues to stall, it has become increasingly more difficult for unskilled workers to find any kind of employment.  It is, therefore, critical that these young people that are most at risk to become a part of correctional system gain the personal and employment skills that will help them stay on the straight and narrow and allow them to make a living wage.

Under this program, we give at-risk youth and youthful offenders the opportunity to gain the vocational skills needed to obtain a job in the construction industry or enter an apprenticeship program.  We give them the opportunity to learn basic home repair skills as a part of our Home Revitalization Program.

To ensure that our clients are ready for the job market, we offer a twelve-week classroom and field educational training program. The training focuses on
